Kandiyohi  County Maintenance Building

THE SHARED VISION: Kandiyohi County required vehicle storage, industrial shop, maintenance office and a 1-car wash bay. The building is a precast structure with a steel deck.

THE INNOVATIVE DESIGN: This project was built by the county to be reimbursed by the state. The building will provide the base for maintenance for the Willmar Regional Treatment Center, bought by the county and leased back to the state to operate programs. The state approved the plan and the project was ready to go out for bids in spring 2006. Then the county was told the legislature did not approve reimbursement to the county by the state. To resolve this a special bill was introduced in the legislature which allowed the reimbursement. A contingency plan to rent trailers was necessary to accommodate the program after the county lost the use of the former building until the new building was complete.
