: Faith : Sacred Spaces
Because of our vast experience working
with church-related space, we are often asked to create
sacred spaces for worship and reflection in other facilties.
Chapel of
the Good Shepherd St. John's Lutheran Home, Springfield,
MN
THE SHARED VISION: A chapel to provide
the residents of St. John’s Home with a desirable
setting for religious services in an area that must
also serve other functions.
THE INNOVATIVE DESIGN: A small chapel
permanently occupies a portion of a multipurpose room.
The room is designed with operable partitions allowing
multiple and simultaneous uses. Light switching allows
for multiple illumination levels for differing activities.
A playful ceiling grid enhances the design while providing
for indirect lighting and operable wall partition tracks.
Views of the chancel are maintained throughout the space.
< Indirect lighting
cuts down on glare and adds to a worshipful feeling.
< The chapel
contains all the liturgical necessities for services
including a baptismal font.
< Views if the
chancel are maintained throughout the space –
even from a seated position at the back of the room.
