THE SHARED VISION: The two Lutheran congregations
in Comfrey, MN whose churches were destroyed by a tornado
had been sharing a pastor. All agreed that a combined
building project was the best solution. The new church
needed to help build closer relationships within the
merged congregations.
THE INNOVATIVE DESIGN: The narthex forms
the ‘town square’ of the church. Everyone
entering the church is close to this area. The sanctuary
is directly ahead, the Fellowship Hall to one side and
the chapel, Fireside room and coffee to the other side.
Items such as the two steeple bells from the two churches
were used in the new building.
< Two Lutheran
churches destroyed in the 1998 tornado that hit Comfrey,
Minnesota, combined to form the New Hope Lutheran Church.
The bell tower housing the combined original bells of
the two churches symbolizes the integration of the congregations.
< The sanctuary
is directly ahead of the main doors.
